In Memory of Kim Funk

D. Kimble “Kim” Funk was born on May 19, 1940, in Springfield, Illinois. For more than 40 years, he contributed to the Rushville community as a volunteer, advocate, and friend.

Many in the community remember him as the friendly face sharing fresh summer vegetables from his garden. Or, offering a smile or a kind “hello” from the Phoenix kitchen.  He was just the sort of guy who was always around to offer a helping hand.  Kim was especially interested in the detailed aspects of renovation and historic projects in Rushville.

He was a wonderful advocate for the Schuyler County Architecture Foundation.  As a new organization, Kim went above and beyond as active, vital, and inspiring volunteer in our Ray House Restoration. He attended our board meetings and offered numerous hours of volunteer support, advice, and ideas—and the occasional pineapple upside down cake! Whether it was pulling carpet tacks with meticulous detail, dragging rusted metal out of the 150-year-old basement, checking the attic for varmints, or simply knocking down cobwebs, Kim jumped in without hesitation and was always a joy to volunteer with!

His friendship to the Schuyler County Architecture Foundation was an amazing gift and he will be so missed.  He believed deeply in our mission and vision for the Ray House, and we are profoundly honored to keep his legacy alive through our Ray House Restoration project!
